Feel-Good Greens!
When it comes to tea, we pour our heart into it. No detail is too small when it comes to making sure you get the best cup of tea we can brew. That’s why we’ve been chatting with our expert tea team to share why Green Tea is so great.
First things first: Green Tea has been celebrated for centuries.
We’re tea geeks. We’re history geeks. We’re flavour geeks. Stories matter to us, and the story of Green Tea is one we love to tell.
It begins over 4,000 years ago in China during the Shang Dynasty. Legend has it that Emperor Shen Nong accidentally discovered tea when some tea leaves blew into his pot of boiling water. Talk about a happy accident!
From China, the tradition of drinking Green Tea spread across Asia, eventually making its way to Japan around the 9th century. Over the centuries, Green Tea became an integral part of various cultures, particularly in Japan, where it became deeply tied to Zen Buddhism and the Japanese Tea Ceremony. This ceremony is a beautiful expression of mindfulness, where every step of preparing and drinking tea is treated as a form of art and meditation - a truly calming experience.
While Green Tea is known for its connection to ancient tea rituals, its story doesn’t end there. Now, let’s break down some science…
What makes Green Tea different from Black Tea?
They’re the same (ish!). Both our Black and Green teas are sourced from the finest tea gardens where the most succulent leaves and buds from the Camellia Sinensis are plucked. However, the big difference is what happens next. Unlike black tea, green tea is steamed or pan fried, and there’s less oxidisation to keep more green grassy qualities to the tea.
Is Green Tea good for you?
Packed with Antioxidants
Scientists say Green Tea is rich in antioxidants that can help fight free radicals and reduces stress. These compounds help protect your cells, support skin health, and may even slow the effects of aging according to some studies.
Boosts Energy and Focus
While naturally lower in caffeine than coffee, Green Tea contains just enough to give you a gentle energy boost. Plus, it’s packed with L-theanine, an amino acid that research suggests can promote calm focus and mental clarity. This harmonious combination makes Green Tea the ideal companion for a productive day.
Hydration with a Purpose
Every sip of Green Tea contributes to your hydration goals while delivering a burst of natural goodness and a perfect mindful moment. Whether you prefer a classic blend or one infused with delicate floral or fruity notes, Green Teas are crafted to delight your taste buds and nurish your body.
Brewing Tips for the Perfect Cup
Temperature Matters
Green tea brews best at around 70°C, compared to the higher 96°C required for black tea.
Brewing Time
For delicate green tea, a steeping time of about 2 minutes is ideal. Generally, the milder the tea’s flavour, the shorter the brewing time required.
